Translating web pages from st.org, Fackförbundet STs website, is easy, but the steps depend on which browser you are using. Here’s a guide for the most popular browsers.
Google Chrome
Automatic Translation: Chrome usually notices if a page is in a different language from your default one (like English) and will offer to translate it. For example, if you’re visiting a Swedish page, Chrome should suggest translating it into English.
Manual Translation: If Chrome doesn’t show the translation option, right-click anywhere on the page and choose “Translate to [your language].”
Settings: To make sure Chrome offers translations, go to Settings > Languages and check that “Offer to translate pages that aren’t in a language you read” is turned on. Learn more about Chrome language settings.
Microsoft Edge
Automatic Translation: Edge automatically offers to translate pages if they are in a different language. So, if your browser language is set to English, Edge will suggest translating a Swedish page into English.
Manual Translation: Click the translation icon in the address bar, or right-click on the page and select “Translate to [your language].”
Settings: You can adjust translation options in Settings > Languages. Learn more about Edge language settings
Firefox
Use an Extension: Firefox doesn’t have a built-in translation feature, but you can add one easily. Download an extension like Google Translate or Translate Web Pages to translate pages.
Manual Translation: With some extensions, you can right-click on a page and choose translation options. The extension will guide you on how to translate web pages.
Safari (Mac)
Built-in Translation: Newer versions of Safari on macOS come with a built-in translation tool. When a page is in another language, a translation icon appears in the address bar.
Manual Translation: Click the translation icon and select the language you want to translate the page into.
Settings: Not all languages are supported in Safari. For unsupported languages, you may need to use an external tool like Google Translate
General tips for any browser
If none of these options work for you, here are two other methods:
- Copy the text you want to translate and paste it directly into Google Translate.
- Go to Google Translate, paste the webpage’s URL, and it will translate the entire page for you.
